Book to TV Trend

I love it when a great book is adapted for the screen in a well-done way. Recently, book to television series has been a popular trend.  Game of Thrones, Outlander, The Handmaid’s Tale, and American Gods are just a few prime examples.  Books to series is a method that allows creators to “do the story justice” because the format allows for story expansion.  One of the best examples of this is The Leftovers.  I thought this series was tremendous.  The book ends where the first season ends.  Season two and three bring closure to the story.  When I initially read The Leftovers, I did not realize how much I wanted further conclusion.

Hulu is currently airing season two of The Handmaid’s Tale.  It will be interesting to see where this story will go.  Especially since both the book and first season end with a bit of a cliffhanger.  I know that not everyone is a fan of television interpreting his or her favorite books onto the screen.  Personally, for me, I enjoy seeing this happen.  In the case of a poorly done adaptation, I just do not watch.

The books and series of the titles mentioned are all available as eBooks, audio-books, and DVD for checkout at Frankfort Community Public Library.
