Learning Syllables Through Drumming

Learning syllables is an important part of language. Sometimes it can be hard for children to break down words into syllables. Music can make this so much easier for them.

When we sing songs it forces us to slow down our speech and in turn makes it easier for children to pick out the different parts of words. They can hear them more clearly.

In the syllables through drumming program, teaching artist Lawrence Clark III makes learning syllables fun. Not only did the kids learn about syllables, they also learned about music and a about working as a team.

The Children’s Department is very happy to have been able to provide this program to our community! The kids had a great time and I know I did as well. Check out some of the pictures from this fabulous event.
