Do you remember gym class and how excited you would get when the teacher would bring out the parachute? I do. Those days are some of my favorite memories from grade school. Too bad we couldn’t play with the parachute every day.
When I started working in the children’s department as a programmer, I learned that we had a parachute. I was that I immediately started thinking of ways to incorporate it into my toddler time program. Unfortunately, I couldn’t figure out how to add it in without taking something out or extending the program time. I decided not to bring it in and put the parachute idea at the back of my mind.
It wasn’t until I was doing some research online that I realized, I can start a program that is based solely on the parachute and playing games with it. So I came up with an outline, found some great ideas from various sites on the internet and I put together a half-hour program designed for toddlers and the parachute.
During the program, we are up and moving around. The kids are getting their wiggles out just like little people are supposed to. They get to jump, sing, dance, spin in circles and bounce things on the chute. What could be more fun? Join us for our Parachute Play program by register at myfcpl.org/calendar.
