Read Across America

The National Education Association (NEA) launched Read Across America in 1998.  It is the nation’s largest celebration of reading.  Read Across America is a year round program that focuses on motivating children and teens to read, through events, partnerships and reading resources, bringing the joy of reading to children of all ages.

Every year the month of March is National Reading Month.  The start of this is initiated with Read Across America Day on March 2, which is also the birthday of one of the most beloved children’s authors-Dr. Seuss!  Read Across America Day is a celebration of the wonder and the love of literacy and a very important reminder that we must make efforts to ensure children receive the necessary education in reading and writing.

So to celebrate our favorite activity, reading, we have a special activity kit available to children ages 3 through kindergarten and grades 1 through 5.  Activity kits are free must you must register your child to receive one.  You can register at myfcpl.org/calendar or at the children’s desk. Kits will be available for pick up beginning February 22, 2021.  We will also have a YouTube video at myfcpl on Tuesday March 2, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. and Saturday March 6 at 10 a.m. filled with fun, Dr. Seuss inspired activities, as well as, Children Dept. staff reading their favorite Dr. Seuss Books!
